Unieke Topcollectie: Extreem Zeldzame Mosasaurus Fossielen (CBR-Romontbos, België)

Specificaties:
Locatie: Groeve CBR-Romontbos, België (niet meer toegankelijk)
Tijdperk: Maastrichtien, Boven-Krijt (72,1 tot 66 miljoen jaar geleden)
Status: 100% authentiek, eigen vondsten

AANGEBODEN STUKKEN:

1. Premaxilla (Snuit) – Mosasaurus hoffmanni (Mantell, 1829)

Unique Top Collection: Extremely Rare Mosasaurus Fossils (CBR-Romontbos Quarry, Belgium)
Proudly offering an exceptional and historically valuable collection of authentic Mosasaurus fossils. All pieces are 100% original, unrestored, and personal discoveries from the well-known CBR-Romontbos quarry in Belgium.
Fossils from the Belgian-Limburg chalk deposits are extremely scarce, unlike material from the Moroccan phosphate mines. Because exposures are highly limited and excavation in the area has nearly ceased, discoveries of this caliber are definitively a thing of the past. This represents a rare opportunity for museums, scientific institutions, or high-end private collectors.

Specifications:
Location: CBR-Romontbos Quarry, Belgium
Era: Maastrichtian, Late Cretaceous (72.1 to 66 million years ago)
Status: 100% authentic, personal field discoveries

ITEMS ON OFFER:

1. Premaxilla (Snout) – Mosasaurus hoffmanni (Mantell, 1829)
Description: The foremost part of the snout, featuring the characteristic short, toothless section at the very tip (known as the edentulous rostrum). The small openings (foramina) at the tip of the snout—which the animal used to detect vibrations in the water while hunting—are beautifully preserved and visible.
Pathology (Unique!): This specific specimen shows clear signs of a bone infection (osteomyelitis) on the upper side of the premaxilla, which may potentially have been the cause of death for this apex predator.
Rarity: Skull elements like these easily detached after death and were frequently scattered by scavenging sharks. Since 1900, only a handful of specimens have ever been discovered. Complete snouts from this region command a market value well exceeding €10,000.

2. Right Lower Jaw (Dentary) & Jaw Fragments – Mosasaurus hoffmanni
Description: A highly rare section of the lower jaw (dentary) containing 3 to 5 original teeth. This fragment was discovered high up in the marl layer and was meticulously excavated in one piece with extreme effort.
Rarity: Partial or complete jaws are virtually never found in the Belgian-Limburg chalk due to prehistoric shark scavenging and scattering.
Market Value: The estimated value of a comparable lower jaw lies between €5,000 and €8,000.

3. Associated Vertebral Column (64 pieces) – Plioplatecarpus marshi (Dollo, 1882)
Description: A unique, largely articulated (associated) spine measuring 3.65 meters (approx. 12 feet) in length, consisting of no fewer than 64 vertebrae. The find began in 2009 with the discovery of the first dorsal vertebra (neck/cervical area) in the Lanaye Member. With an estimated total body length of 5 to 6 meters, this individual belonged to the smaller, more agile genus of mosasaurs.
Rarity: A continuous vertebral column of this genus is considered extremely rare. Because it is found far less frequently than Mosasaurus hoffmanni, it commands a premium price among specialized collectors.
Market Value: Museum-grade skeletal sections of this completeness are internationally traded between €10,000 and €50,000.

4. Basioccipital / Sphenoid (Braincase) – Butterfly-shaped skull bone
Description: Unlike teeth, which mosasaurs shed continuously throughout their lives and are thus frequently found, deep cranial elements like this butterfly-shaped bone (basioccipital) from the braincase are an absolute rarity.
Value: This piece holds exceptional scientific and collector value.
